Why Christians should stop protesting against Donald Trump by Donnie McClurkin

Christians should stop protesting U.S. President Donald Trump and instead shift their focus and get involved by exercising their right to vote, according to New York-based pastor and gospel singer Donnie McClurkin.

In an appearance on the syndicated radio show “Get Up! Mornings With Erica Campbell,” McClurkin urged Christians to know the true value of their vote and to not get caught up in the ongoing protests against Trump. The Perfecting Faith Church pastor said protests only stir people’s emotions, The Christian Post relays.

“We need to know what our vote really means and how to utilize it. But I don’t want us to get caught up in this protest,” said Pastor McClurkin on the radio show. “The protests do nothing but rile [people] up. It causes people’s anger to rise up and it gives us a false sense of involvement.”

At that point, host Campbell said protests actually make authorities “pay a little more attention” by making them spend money for organizing the streets. However, McClurkin said only taxpayer dollars are being spent during protests.

McClurkin said Christians should accept Trump as their president and pray for him instead of protesting against him. He said “now is the time to pray” for their leader and that this responsibility falls on the church’s shoulders. Quoting 2 Chronicles 7:14, Pastor McClurkin said Christians should leave protests to the world and focus on praying for Trump because his success and failures will affect the whole country.

Ahead of Trump’s inauguration last month, McClurkin admitted that he did not support Trump in the elections. Still, he told Studio 5 that he will pray that their new leader will succeed in office.

In addition, McClurkin said Christian organizations that continue to oppose Trump “need to stand down now” and follow what the Bible says, adding that no one should hope for the failure or death of the new American president. The New York pastor also recited a prayer for God to protect Trump and the first family from any danger, accident, and insanity, and that he will be surrounded by people who can help the country grow.
