Text: Psalms 119:105-112
EMHB 248: Jesu, the word bestow, the true immortal seed
Considering the importance of the word of God, there is a lot of emphasis on meditating on it (Joshua 1:8), teaching it to our children from generation to generation (Deut. 6:4-9); and studying and letting it dwell in us richly (2 Timothy 2:15; Colossians 3:16). The word transforms and gives perfect guide to children of God. Some great blessings of being guided by the word and doing the Lord’s will are inner peace and joy because the Bible says that there is no peace for the wicked.
Due to disobedience of God’s command, David suffered the consequence for which he poured out his heart to God in penitence and repentance (Psalm 51) and was forgiven. He learnt from God’s word that nothing is hidden from the Lord. David also knew that through the word of God he would prosper and be victorious.
A major challenge with the word of God is the courage to obey it or follow its directive. Preachers and Christian groups have multiplied. Yes, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17), but most hear and don’t do. It is those who diligently search the word, listen ‘and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it –he will be blessed in what he does,’ James 1: 25.
It is never an easy task for anybody to follow rules. From Scriptures to daily life, humanity have always continued to break the law, which brings consequences. That is why Jesus Christ was sent to stand justice on our behalf so that by faith in Him, we may be justified; and by Him dwelling in us, we receive grace to live out His life (Galatians 5:20).
Memory Verse: James 1: 22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
Prayer: Lord, grant us sound doctrine and the power to do your word. Amen.
