Text: Matthew 13:18-23
HYMN: EMHB 311 – Thy faithfulness, Lord, each moment we find
Memory Verse: Matthew 13:8 “Still other seeds fell on good soil, where they produced a crop-a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” (NIV)
Jesus Christ used different methods of teaching – parables, analogies and practical demonstrations – to drive home the emphatic message of the kingdom of God. For example, at one time, parents brought little children to Jesus and He pointed to the kids for His disciples to take note of them and said, ‘… I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.’ (Mark 10:15 NIV)
In the parable we are looking at today, God is shown as a farmer – sower; the seed is the Word of God, while the soil represents the heart of people. Neither the sower nor the seed has a problem but the condition of the soil i.e. the heart that receives the seed, if God’s perfect and eternal Word is received with a good heart, it must definitely grow and produce good effect. Through the word of God you are born again into a new life, ‘For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God. (1 Peter 1:23 NIV).
The Bible is very clear on the fact that God is not a human being that should lie; therefore God watches over His Word to perform it. Isaiah 55:11 says: ‘So shall My word be that goes forth from my Mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.’ Life and power are in God’s Word and it is sharper than any double-edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12)
Friend, believe the Word, obey the Word, speak the Word, study the Word, and let it dwell in you richly. No other human or satanic force will withstand you in the Name of Jesus Christ, the eternal Word of God. Throughout this year 2017, be armed with the Word of God.
Prayer: Father, I believe that Your Word and promise in Christ Jesus shall stand for me throughout this New Year in Jesus’ name. Amen.
