THEME: WHAT GOD LOVES
TEXT: PSALM 11:5-7
HYMN: EMHB 393 I give my heart to Thee
From the inception of the world till today God and love are inseparable. God has always been lavishing His love on us. God created all things for the comfort of man; He poured down rain on both sinners and the righteous; He gave His only Son for the atonement of the sin of man. The Word of God, the Bible, is all about love and God. Show me the Bible without God and love and I will show you a man without soul and spirit. God is love and love is good. In recognition and appreciation of the love of God, there is need for man to reciprocate His love as commanded. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul ……….” Luke 10:27
How do we love God? We love God when we obey His command (John 14:15), when we love what he loves and hate what He hates, when we run away from sin, when we confess Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, when we love our neighbours, when we preach the Word to the world, when we help the needy and give sacrificially. That which God loves, as identified by the psalmist (David) is RIGHTEOUSNESS or UPRIGHTNESS or RIGHTLIVING. David, in Ps. 11:5-7, identifies what God hates and what He loves. According to him, God hates wickedness and embraces righteousness. In Malachi, 2:2-17 God, through Prophet Malachi admonishes the priests to emulate Levi in whose mouth was true instruction, no wrong was found in his lips and he walked with God in uprightness. Both righteousness and uprightness take their roots from the word “right”. Both mean the state of doing what is right or the state of being right with God. Living a life that is free from iniquity is what God loves. Our church and leaders should hate injustice and do what is just.
Our nation should hate wickedness and embrace righteousness that will exalt her. (Prov. 14:34.
If we must see His face (obtaining His favour), then we must endeavour to love that which He loves – Righteousness (Ps. 11:7, Micah 6:8, Zeph. 2:3.)
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 11:7 “For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness: His
countenance beholds the upright.”
PRAYER: Righteous God, clothe me with the garment of righteousness to love that which You
love and to hate what You hate.
