TEXT: LUKE 16:10-13
HYMN: EMHB 311 – Thy faithfulness, Lord, each moment we find
Faithfulness is one of the true qualities that everyone desires. This includes: faithfulness to duty and faithfulness in relationship. Faithfulness is the act or quality of being faithful; being trustworthy, honest and dependable over what is committed into the care of one.
From the passage we read, it is important to note that being faithful in and with little things given to one will amount to giving the person something bigger; and vice versa (Luke 16:10). We now consider two sides in respect of faithfulness, following the content of our passage; namely: vertical or man-to-man faithfulness and horizontal or man-to-God faithfulness. We are expected to be faithful to our friends, colleagues, spouses, and to God Almighty.
When a person cannot be trusted or seen as faithful by fellow men, it becomes open to all that none would make mention of him/her for a responsible appointment. Now in Luke 16:12, we are pointed to the scripture that teaches handling other people’s things as our own – both in secret and in the open. Looking at verse 12, the crux of our message, we are told, “You cannot serve God and mammon.”
People of God, stepping into a world that seeks trust and coming close to God that demands accuracy towards Him and fellowmen, cause us to become people of absolute integrity, standing in wholehearted worship of Him, carrying out our life’s responsibilities with absolute dignity and faithfulness every time. It is only by so doing that we can boast of increased faith and higher attainments here on earth. In clear terms, faithfulness is a mark of integrity and true Christian character, and it has rewards which can be enjoyed by yourself and many generations after you, even to eternity.
MEMORY VERSE: Gal. 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.”
PRAYER: Lord, increase Your grace upon my life so that I can be faithful and trusted by people and You in every area of my life. Amen.
