Daily Reflection: YOUR STRENGTH CAN’T DO IT/MONDAY 9TH OCTOBER, 2017

MONDAY 9TH OCTOBER, 2017                                                 READ – DAY: 1 Tim 1-2; Night: Isaiah 57-60

THEME: YOUR STRENGTH CAN’T DO IT

TEXT:     ZECHARIAH 4:5-8

HYMN:  EMHB 299 – Come, Holy Ghost, all-quickening fire.

Every one at a certain time or the other in life needs someone to tell him or her: “You are able, Push on! The Lord is your strength! You can make it” and so on.

Zerubbabel (meaning ‘Born in Babylon’) was the governor of post-exilic Judah and the Lord had commissioned him to build His temple which was destroyed by the war-mongering Babylonians under King Nebuchadnezzer. The work was actually in progress when suddenly the enormous challenges around seemed to suggest that his strength could not cope. As a result God had to raise Prophet Zechariah to stand by Zerubbabel with the encouragement he needed

The vision of the solid Lamp stand could be God Himself who is the Foundation and Source of supply. Hence on it were the seven candles burning ceaselessly to show that God’s supply is unlimited. He also saw the tubes that were supplying the oil to the Lamp which is the Spirit of God supplying all that are needed for the work.

By this vision, God was reassuring Zerubbabel that even though the challenge was as a big as mountain, He would provide all he needed to overcome the hindrances. And soon, he would see the major part of the temple at completion stage and be encouraged to move on ahead.

What is the mountain hindering your moving forward either in your work or the work of God? A ‘mountain’ can be real or imaginary. It could be a big man or an unseen force. Turn it to Christ and you shall surely overcome and praise the Lord.

MEMORY VERSE: Zechariah 4:6 “This is the message from the Lord to Zerubbabel: Your help will not come from your own strength and power. No, your help will come from My Spirit. This is what the Lord All-Powerful says”.

PRAYER: O Lord, hold me by the hand and lead me through difficult situations of life into a lasting victory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
