Daily Reflection: YOU HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY – Thursday 16th August, 2018

THURSDAY 16TH AUGUST, 2018
THEME: YOU HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY
TEXT: EXODUS 17: 8-16
MEMORY VERSE: EXODUS 17:12 “When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up — one on one side, one on the other — so that his hands remained steady till sunset.”

All societies or organizations are made up of leaders and those being led. Each one has his own role to play to make the society progressive. In our reading today, Moses, the leader, exhibited human frailties during a national emergency. However, he got support from his assistants and the nation remained cohesive and was victorious.

Our leaders, no matter the gift they may possess, are still human and have weaknesses common to humans. They are not supernatural. In the text, mention is made of Aaron, the elder brother Moses, and Hur, the son of Caleb (1 Chr. 2:19 & 20). They were those who “stayed up the hands of Moses till the battle with the Amalekites was won.” With Moses alone, the Israelites might have lost the battle to the Amalekites. Nobody is useless – every person, be it in the family, church, association, clan or nation – has a role to play for the overall growth of that community or family. Let us be relevant wherever we are for God to be glorified. Each of us has a role to play and God has designed for each one his/her stature in life so that God Himself will be glorified.

As Paul exhorted us in 1 Corinthians. 12:4-11, we all have various gifts that help the role that God has designed for us in the body of Christ – the church. You can also equate these gifts to the talents mentioned by Jesus in the parable Matt. 25:14-30. So it must be emphasized here that everyone has a gift no matter how small. Each gift confers on us a role in the body of Christ no matter how small. As the priest is important so also is the sexton and the Sunday School teacher. Each must combine to make the Kingdom work.
