Daily Reflection: WITHOUT FAVOUR/SATURDAY 21ST OCTOBER, 2017

SATURDAY 21ST OCTOBER, 2017                                             READ – DAY: John 7:1-24; Night: 2 Chro 33-35

THEME: WITHOUT FAVOUR

TEXT:     NUMBERS 11:11-17

HYMN:  EMHB 516 – When we walk with the Lord

The sovereign God, who rules in the kingdom of men (Dan. 4:25) and knows the thought of man (1Sam. 16:7, Jer. 17:9-10), in His mercy, called Moses, a stammerer and fugitive (Exo.4:10-11), to bring out the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land.  His special interest for the Israelites was not because of their righteousness. Neither was His choice of Moses based on Moses’ ability. Rather, it was based on His mercy and compassion.  God confirms this in Rom. 9:14 “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion”.  As you are reading this devotional text, God shall specially have mercy and compassion on you in Jesus’ name.

From the passage before us today, the Israelites murmured against Moses and God, in the wilderness because they wanted to eat meat.  Their trouble and murmuring made Moses, too, to ‘blame’ God for choosing him to lead the Israelites and even asked God to kill him!  May earthly pressure never turn you against God in Jesus’ name. Amen

Therefore, God directed Moses to choose 70 elders among the Israelites and He will take part of His spirit on Moses and put it on the 70 elders who shall lead the Israelites.  Beloved, God usually chooses and commissions the vessel He wants to use without favour.  He always has more than enough human and material resources for His work.  It, therefore, follows that whenever God uses you to carry out divine assignment, it is not based on your human ability but on His mercy.

So, in whatever area God is using you, always do all things with humility, dedication and commitment to the glory of His Name.  (Col. 3:17,23 ).  No matter the challenges that may confront you in life, do not blame God or His servant.  Instead, prayerfully take such challenges to God and patiently wait for His intervention. It shall be well with you in Jesus’ name.

MEMORY VERSE: Num. 11:11 “So Moses said to the Lord ‘Why have you afflicted Your servant? And why have I not found favour in Your sight, that You have laid the burden of all these people on me?”

PRAYER: Father, in Your mercy, grant me the grace to walk with and obey You daily to the end of my life here on earth, in Jesus’ name.
