SUNDAY 7TH MAY, 2017 READ – Day: Mark 10:32-52; Night: Jug 15-17
THEME: WHERE IS THE LORD GOD OF ELIJAH?
TEXT: 2 KINGS 2: 7 – 14
HYMN: EMHB 252 – God is with us, God is with us
Elijah went up to heaven by a whirlwind and Elisha saw it. Follow this reason, Elisha received a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. The record show that Elijah performed 16 miracles; Elisha performed 32! On the way back, Elisha took Elijah’s mantle that had fallen from him and struck the Jordan, just as Elijah did, and he asked: ‘Where is the Lord God of Elijah?’
Maybe you are asking today, ‘Where is God?’ Where is He? Where is God in my life? Where is God in my situation? Where is God in Nigeria? When you go through newspapers, you read about mind-bogging violence, uncommon hatred, unabating corruption, unbelievable wickedness and social vices. You read about judicial killings, official looting of public treasuries, impunity in high places…. Then you wonder where God is, in all these situations?
Here is the good news: The Lord God of Elijah was with Elisha and River Jordan was parted. Likewise, the Lord God of Elijah is still our Emmanuel. If you abide in Jesus Christ, and the Word of God abides in you, God is with you. God is with you in your successes, victories and blessings. He is with you in your challenges, weaknesses, struggles and crises. He has promised and He will never fail you. Jesus Christ said, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20b) Receive Jesus Christ, the Emmanuel, into your life today, receive and believe the Word of God and the presence of God shall fill your life with hope, faith and love. Then you will call and the Lord God of Elijah will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am’ (Isaiah 58:9).
MEMORY VERSE: 2 Kings 2:14 “Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, ‘Where is the Lord God of Elijah?’ And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.”
PRAYER: My Lord and my God, bless me with Your presence, and enable me to continue to worship You in spirit and in truth, all the days of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
