TUESDAY 4TH JULY, 2017 READ – DAY: Matt 16; Night: Psalm 93-95
THEME: TRUE WISDOM
TEXT: PROVERBS 3: 13 -18
HYMN: EMHB 622 – Show me the way, O Lord.
The wisdom of God is essential for meaningful living here and hereafter. The passage under consideration is a praise of wisdom, which begins and ends with happiness. To be happy is to discover and live the good life that God, our Creator and Redeemer, originally intended for us. This scripture describes the present and future blessings enjoyed by godly people.
Wisdom is profitable to all who have it because it offers long life, wealth, honour and peace. Verse 18 says Wisdom is a tree of life to those who have it. This implies that possession of this wisdom can make one enter eternal life. In a perfect world, wise behaviour and attitude always lead to the above benefits. Even in our troubled world, living wisely usually results in obvious blessings though it is not always so. Earthly riches and honour do not always come to us even though we are living according to God’s wisdom. But we can be sure that we will receive everlasting riches and honour from God as our future inheritance. So godly wisdom is better than gold, silver, and jewels because it gives enduring riches along with honour, inner peace, and eternal life.
Remember! A tree of life is a source provided by God for healing and eternal life (Rev.2:7; 22:2). Thus godly wisdom functions symbolically to replace what was lost in the Garden of Eden. Jesus Christ is the Wisdom of God and He fulfilled Wisdom’s promises.
MEMORY VERSE: Prov. 2:11-12 “Discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you, to deliver you from the man who speaks perverse things.”
PRAYER: Lord, endow me with divine wisdom and understanding in Jesus’ name. Amen.
PRAYER: The all-knowing God, I crave for Your wisdom. Give it to me in abundance so that I can steer clear of the evil and perverse people. Amen.
