WEDNESDAY 8TH NOVEMBER, 2017 READ – DAY: Heb 1-2; Night: Jer 30-31
THEME: THE WISE AND FOOLISH BUILDERS
TEXT: MATTHEW 7: 24 -29
HYMN: EMHB 589 – Go, labour on: spend, and be spent
In this parable, the two builders had some things in common. They both wanted to build a house that would last. They both listened to the sayings of Jesus Christ and both of them were affected by storm of the same magnitude.
There were also some important differences. First, there was a difference in the character of the builders. One man was wise while the other was foolish. A fool is a person who does not implement the knowledge he has. Wisdom, according to Jesus, is the ability to take the divine truth you know and apply it to your life.
For example, many Christians have terrible marriages not because they don’t know Ephesians 5 or 1Corinthians 13; they know them very well, but they don’t implement them. Many can tell you about Jesus’ teaching on forgiveness but they cannot bring themselves to forgive.
As a result of the difference in character, they built on different foundations – the wise on the rock and the foolish on the sand. It is much more expensive to build on the rock than on the sand. The biggest contrast of all was in the results. While the house of the foolish man fell with a terrible crash, the house of the wise man stood firm.
Are you building on the rock or on sand? Beware! The storm is coming! If you are wise, you will put the Word of Jesus into practice as you build your life, marriage, family, business and ministry.
MEMORY VERSE: 1 Corinthians 3:11 “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
PRAYER: Help me, my Lord and my God, to be a hearer and a doer of Your Word in Jesus’ name. Amen
