Text: Hebrews 9:27
Memory Verse: Hebrews 10:31 “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

For each of us to see the last day of 2016 is worth thanksgiving to God. At the same it should be a day of sober reflection on our life with God and our fellow humans. Let us consider the word of George Whitefield. “When I die the only epitaph that I desire to have engraved upon my tombstone is “Here lies George Whitefield; what sort of man he was the great day will discover.”Imagine that he was not born-again or that after he became born-again, he did not grow in the Spirit. If that be the case with George Whitefield, then he had headed for the ultimate tragedy.

The ultimate tragedy is a final state of trouble from which no one could be delivered. Why could God allow such a thing to happen? Of course, He would not allow it if He had not sufficiently warned us on how to escape it and given us opportunities again and again to flee to a place of refuge. He had provided the way of Salvation and deliverance in Christ which is adequate escape route from the ultimate tragedy.

God did not stop at that but keeps warning us until this morning by what you are reading. Let us recall that it was the same way He warned Adam and Eve and even told them the consequence of disobedience. (Gen 2:16,17). They disobeyed and He punished them. How would He spare those who refuse His way of salvation today?
The truth is that there is an ultimate tragedy. The good news is that we can escape it. ‘How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation? Which, having at the first been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him;’ (Heb 2:3).

As we end the year today, may God provide a way out of all knotty issues confronting us and out of sin and its consequences in Jesus’ name. Amen. We must avoid this tragedy in 2017.

Hymn: EMHB 646 – Day of wrath! O day of mourning

Deliver me, Oh Lord, from the day of wrath, from the ultimate tragedy and give me an inheritance with You in Jesus’ name. Amen. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU 👏
