DAILY REFLECTION: The sides of the Hedge | Saturday 6th MAY

SATURDAY 6TH MAY, 2017 READ – Day: Mark 9:30-50; Night: Jug 10-12
TEXT: JOB 1: 1 – 12
HYMN: EMHB 503 – God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform

Job was a righteous, prosperous and godly man in his generation. However, he lost his wealth and family through sudden death and tragedies. Eventually, he lost his health and wished that his life would end.
In Job 1:10, Satan perceived that there was a hedge of protection around Job. He blotted out: “Have You not made a hedge around him!” This hedge was a problem for Satan. However, in 3:23, the same hedge had become a problem for Job! He felt that it was restricting him and harming him: “Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, and whom God has hedged in?”
When you see a hedge or a fence, do you see it as something that protects you or something that restricts you? The answer depends on your perspective. Saint Augustine tells the story that once he was saved from death by a mistake of his guide. The guide had gone up the wrong road and both of them had got lost. Little did they know that the providential Hand of God was leading them up the wrong road, because up the right road the Donatists had laid in wait to murder Augustine. God’s Hand was hedging them in.
As long as you abide in Jesus Christ, you need to know that God’s hedge around you is to protect and guide you; that all things work together for your good; that your life is hidden in Christ and that your victory is sure. Worthy Is The Lamb!

MEMORY VERSE: Job 1:10 “Have you not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.”
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I know that being in Christ I am protected by Your hedge. Help me, I pray, to abide in You to the end of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
