SATURDAY 18TH NOVEMBER, 2017                                                        READ – DAY: James 4-5; Night: Lam 1-2

TEXT: JOSHUA 1: 7 – 8

HYMN: EMHB 310 – When quiet in my home I sit,

Study is defined as a piece of work that is written to find out more about a particular subject. The Word of God (the Scripture) is a product of the inspiration of the Holy Spirit written by 40 divinely-inspired men for admonition, correction, and discipline to learn from the examples of heroes and heroines of faith. The Bible shows the totality of what man can be.

At the commissioning of Joshua after the death of Moses, to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, God promised to be with him as He was with Moses and give him success. The condition to have the success depended on his studying the book of the Law. The book of the law contains instructions on how he and his people could have relationship with God. It contains religious and civil laws, ethics of dealing with foreigners, etc. Since the book of the law is not an ordinary book, but a book that God Himself dictated to Moses on Mount Sinai, it is His breath. It is a book that is never outdated because God the author can never be outdated. The reason why Joshua was to study it was that it would guide him in praying (Joshua 6: 6 – 9), in organizing the nation to conquer the land flowing with milk and honey and give him knowledge and wisdom to administer the nation.

There is no other way to success in our endeavours than to study the Word of God. There is no circumstance that we have that the Word of God has no answer for. The experience of heroes and heroines of faith is an example for us to order our lives. It is a fact that the Word is as old as creation but it is ever new, speaking to the present and, of course, future situations and circumstances. The promises of God are written in this book and His promises are ‘Yea and Amen.’

When you study the Word you will not fall into the snares of Satan because His Word is a lamp to our feet (Ps. 119:105). Studying it will make you wiser than your enemies.

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Tim. 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

PRAYER: Everlasting God, give me the grace to be diligent in studying Your Word and make me grow in faith in Jesus’ name. Amen.
