TUESDAY 9TH MAY, 2017 READ – Day: Mark 12; Night: Jug 20-21
THEME: THE OBEDIENCE OF FAITH
TEXT: GENESIS 6: 13 – 22
HYMN: EMHB 516 – When we walk with the Lord
Noah believed God to the point that he did what in normal life was totally irrational because God told him to do it (verse. 22): The obedience of faith is doing what you are instructed by God to do, believing that what God has said will come to pass. One of the greatest acts of faith in the history of the world was when Noah picked up the tool to cut down the first tree. What a faith! If we take one cubit to be 2feet one inch or about 25 inches (i.e. 0.6 meter), the dimensions of the ark were roughly 625 feet long, 104 feet wide, and 621/2 feet high, with a capacity exceeding that of 600 railroad cars (verse. 14 – 16).This ark took Noah years to complete. He spent his life obeying what God said. Is that not amazing?
Noah’s conduct must have made him to look like a fool. Men who obey God’s Word tend to look like fools to unbelievers. There was a man who had a sandwich-board sign on and in the front it said –“I am a fool for Christ”. Everybody would laugh. And then as they went by and on the back it said –“Whose fool are you? I will rather be a fool for God and win in the end rather than be wise for Satan who said in Paradise Lost”. It is better to reign in hell than to serve in heaven!
I want my faith to obey God’s Word no matter how difficult it is. I want my faith to stand as a rebuke to a corrupt world. I want my faith to be that which establishes me in the sight of God as righteous. His Judgment is coming, and the only security is refuge in The ark, who is Jesus Christ.
MEMORY VERSE: Hebrew 11:8 “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going”
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to believe and obey You, no matter how bizarre or how strange or how difficult or how out of my routine the command might be; God, help me to trust and obey You in Jesus’ name. Amen.
