WEDNESDAY 16TH AUGUST 2017 READ – DAY: 1 Thes 3-4; Night: Prv 26-27
THEME: THE INDISPENSABLE SPIRIT
TEXT: ACT 2:1-4
HYMN: EMHB 273 ‘Come down, O Love Divine
When God CAME DOWN FROM His throne to live with us in human form as Jesus, He taught His disciples many things so that such things would be remembered and put into practice. He promised His continued presence in the form of the Holy Spirit (John 14:15-19). This promise was kept in the event that occurred at the upper room on the day of Pentecost as recorded in our passage. Act 2: 1-4.
When the promised spirit came to the disciples, men who were timid became bold. Men who had their minds set on physical things began to see things from spiritual perspective. The Holy Spirit became the driving force behind all the acts being performed by the apostles and the early church at that time and now. That was why Apostle Paul could exclaim in Phil 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”. The Spirit of God is indispensable to every believer who lives and answers God’s call to a life of service and discipleship. Without the spirit of God we cannot perform the task set before us.
Therefore, we must constantly seek the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. May the constant companionship of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the living God, be with us always. Amen
MEMORY VERSE: 2 Cor.13:14 “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
PRAYER: Father, fill me anew with Your Holy Spirit so that I can witness for You with boldness every day of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
