FRIDAY 17TH NOVEMBER, 2017 READ – DAY: James 2; Night: Jer 52
THEME: THE IDEAL VINE
TEXT: JOHN 15: 1- 8
HYMN: EMHB 199 -Jesus, keep me near the Cross
Jesus used the analogy of the vine to explain our relationship with Him. A vine is like an economic tree such as orange or mango. Good vines have branches. The main stem of the vine supplies food to the branches before they can bear fruit. A branch that separates itself from the stem cannot survive let alone bear fruit. A branch abides in the vine for the purpose of receiving nutrients and bearing fruit.
In Christian relationship, Jesus is the vine while Christians are the branches. A Christian who desires to grow in faith and bear fruit has to abide in Him. The reason for abiding in Him is that a Christian can only have nutrients of strength that will sustain him/her in the various seasons of the year when he abides in Him. There is no season in which he lacks any nutrients, just like any established economic tree, which has stored all necessary nutrients from where the branches get their daily supply.
You have to abide in Him for you to surmount all life’s challenges. No Christian can record any form of success or achievement without abiding in Jesus. A Christian who abides in Him receives answers to his/her prayers. For you to bear the fruit of righteousness, win souls, have unspeakable joy and peace that surpass all human understanding, you have to abide in Christ. It is by abiding in Christ that His grace can be sufficient for you. If you abide in Him, you will be able to boldly say “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”(Phil.4:13)
MEMORY VERSE: John 15:4 “Remain in Me and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself: it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me” MEMORY VERSE: John 15:4 “Remain in Me and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself: it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me”
PRAYER: Merciful Father, You are the true vine, please nourish me as a branch to bear good fruit and to follow Your footsteps in all my daily duties in Jesus’ name. Amen.
