WEDNESDAY 31ST MAY, 2017 READ – Day: 1 John 1; Night: Psalm 1-7
THEME: THE DAY OF THE LORD
TEXT: MALACHI 4: 1 – 2
HYMN: EMHB 645 – That day of wrath, that dreadful day
This passage speaks of a day that Malachi describes as “the great and awesome day of the LORD.” It will be a day of judgment for some. All those who arrogantly reject and resist God will be consumed with God’s judgment on this great and awesome day (Vs. 1). This judgment started when Jesus went to the Cross and was judged in our place. And it will be completed on this great and awesome day of the Lord. All sins are punished … either on the Cross or in eternity.
There are millions of people in this world today who are facing the judgment of God because they are not trusting in Jesus Christ; and are therefore, not a part of God’s treasured possession. Brothers and sisters, as followers of Jesus, we have a mission to make disciples. We must prove that we are followers of Jesus by being involved in that mission.
In addition to judgment on this great and awesome day of the Lord, there will be healing(Vs. 2).Jesus, who is the light of the world, will rise up and bring about healing and restoration, not just to His followers but also to all God’s creation. Are you trusting in Jesus today? Are you ready for the great and awesome day of the LORD? Jesus has come. He has promised to come again. And the message to us all is “repent and believe.”
MEMORY VERSE: Mark 13:32 “But of the day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
PRAYER: Have mercy upon me, O my Lord, Jesus Christ, and let me escape the wrath of God that will come upon the children of disobedience.
