DAILY REFLECTION: THE CHURCH IN YOUR HOME/MONDAY 21ST AUGUST 2017

MONDAY 21ST AUGUST 2017                                     READ – DAY: Gal 3; Night: 2 Chro 7-8

THEME: THE CHURCH IN YOUR HOME

TEXT:     I SAMUEL 5:1-5

HYMN:  EMHB 701   The Church’s one foundation

The ark was the symbol of God’s presence to the Israelites of old. It contained the covenant stones, the pot of manna and Aaron’s rod. Every Israelite would go to the location where the ark was placed in order to worship God. But in New Testament times, Jesus Christ changed this practice when He said ‘the time is coming, when God will be worshipped not only on this mountain but everywhere, for God is a spirit and is everywhere. (John 4:23). To further enhance, this Jesus said “where two or three are gathered in My name, there I shall be”. (MK18:20). With the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the driving force to worship the living God came into existence. The ark was the image needed for worship by the Israelites in the Old Testament, but the spirit of God prompts us to worship everywhere today. So the church of God becomes ‘where two or three are gathered in the Name of Jesus to worship the Father’. So you and the Holy Spirit make the simple quorum needed for the church to exist. Your home should be the place of its main existence.

When you and members of your family gather for prayer in your home, at the Name of Jesus, the church of God is constituted with the Holy Spirit helping our prayers (Rom 8:26, 27). The Spirit that knows the mind of the living God helps our worship and takes our prayers to the Throne of Grace.

MEMORY VERSE: Ps 16:11 “You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence with eternal pleasure at Your right hand.

PRAYER: In You God I live and move and have my being. Thank You that You are with me everywhere I go.
