MONDAY 3RD JULY, 2017 READ – DAY: Matt 15; Night: Psalm 90-92
THEME: THE BEAUTY OF WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE
TEXT: PROVERBS 2:10 – 22
HYMN: EMHB 549- Lord that I may learn of Thee.
Wisdom can be got from family, classroom and one’s environment. This type of wisdom only makes us fit into the world system and patterns us for life on earth. What the world calls wisdom is not the true and correct wisdom because it is void of substance that can promote harmonious co-existence. It does not have God as its object. The wisdom that is spoken of in our text is that needed for practical daily life (Romans 12:1-21). The wisdom for practical living is beautiful because of what it offers to anyone that gets it.
The blessings (beauty) of gaining this wisdom include learning to fear the Lord – honouring and holding God in high esteem, standing before Him in awe. So it guards the recipient from evil along life’s path. It gives one the ability to discern good from evil, thereby avoiding the tragedies of sin. It helps one to avoid perverse people and helps in associating with those who are good and righteous.
This wisdom comes from God Himself. And it is only when God’s wisdom enters our hearts that our motives, desires and thoughts- will produce the above blessings. To accomplish this, the Spirit of truth must work within our hearts and minds. How can we receive the Spirit of wisdom? Jesus Christ must be made the Lord of our lives – for He is the Wisdom of God. It means that our hearts and minds must be open to His call unto salvation through the gospel.
As a child of God, the more we read the scriptures, the wiser we become in our daily work and walk with God here on earth.
MEMORY VERSE: Prov. 4:7 “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”
