SUNDAY 26TH MARCH 2017 (MOTHERING SUNDAY) READ – Day: 2 Cor 12-13; Night: Num 17-18
THEME: MOTHERS INDEED
TEXT: EXODUS 2:1-10
HYMN: “Sweet mother, I won’t forget you for the suffering you had for me”
or any lyrics in your dialect to eulogise your mother and women in general.
In our passage, all the actors were women. The only male here was an unnamed Levite who took a wife from the Levi family. That was all there was about men in the passage. However, the remaining story showed the struggle to save the life of Moses. Can you believe that all the efforts to save Moses’ life were initiated and implemented by women? The efforts to nurse him, train him, provide for him, show him affection and care were basically executed by women. I keep wondering where the men were or where his father whose name was given as “Amram” in Exodus 6:20, was and what was his contribution during this trying time in the life of Moses.
Is this not the case today? It is of course. So why should any man complain when a child takes care of his or her mother? I think that Moses would not forget his mother whose name was given as Jochebed in Exodus 6:20. She was there for him. In fact, many children died at that time but it was Moses’ mother that God used for him. It is a day to celebrate our mothers. As we do so let us challenge our fathers to show more care to our mothers Proverb 23:22 says “Harken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she’s old”. Let us also challenge women who do not play well the role of mothers to rise up and become Mothers Indeed. To all our mothers, we doff hats and appreciate you for all your love.
MEMORY VERSE: Exodus 2:9: And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.
PRAYER: Pray for your mother, wife, daughters, sisters and all who are female role models to you. Ask God to make them wonderful role models like Susan Wesley or like Hannah, the mother of Samuel.
