FRIDAY 27TH OCTOBER, 2017                                    READ – DAY: John 11:1-27; Night: Jer 1-2

TEXT:     2CORINTIANS 12:13-16

HYMN:  EMHB 820 – Who is on the Lord’s side

Everyone in this world must decide, either to be on the side of God or the devil.  Most professed Christians in the world today may be classified as ‘fence-straddlers’, that is, they are trying to live for God and mammon (pleasing the world) at the same time.

Taking sides often means offending someone and pleasing the other.  Thus, taking sides means losing some fans, friends, money, followers, popularity, etc.  God dislikes the fence-straddlers.  He made this known in Rev. 3:15-16 where He says: “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold.  So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of My mouth.” May this never be your portion in Jesus’ name.

In today’s text, although Paul did not ask anything from the Corinthian believers, some doubters still accused Paul of being crafty making money from them somehow.  But Paul again explained that everything he did for the converts was for their edification and not to enrich himself.  Apostle Paul did not allow this to distract him from the vision God gave him and his love and ministry for the Corinthian Church.  He was contented and refused to be lured into exploiting the body of Christ. Infact, despite the discouraging comments made by Paul’s detractors, he still made efforts to visit the Corinthian Church.

Beloved, when you are ‘put on trial’ do you think only about saving your reputation or are you more concerned about what people will think about Christ?  I counsel you to always stand on the side of God in all situations.  Daniel and his colleagues stood on God’s side in Babylon.  The disciples of Jesus chose to obey God under intense pressure and persecution.  Even while being stoned to death, Stephen refused to deny Christ.  Anytime and anywhere you stand on the side of God, you are honouring God and God will surely honour you (I Sam. 2:30).

Brethren, in this challenging period in our nation, where people believe that except you follow the path of corruption you cannot be rich, God is still calling His children to holiness and righteousness.

MEMORY VERSE: “And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.  (2 Cor. 12: 15)

PRAYER:  Heavenly Father, give me the grace to always honour You and to continually be on Your side in every situation in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
