THEME: SEEK THE KINGDOM OF GOD
TEXT: LUKE 12: 22-32
MEMORY VERSE: LUKE 12:31 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.” NLT
Our material world is dominated by Satan and his lieutenants. Man had only two choices to make before the FALL: “Eat this fruit but do not eat that fruit,” was the injunction from God, the owner of the Garden of Eden, which can be interpreted to be a paradise. A family was planted in the Garden of Eden. According to God’s plan, the family was to enjoy the juicy things of that paradise but the family failed and was thrown out of the paradise. Man, ever since then began to worry to have many things which were originally free gifts to him when he was in the presence of God.
According to Maslow’s theory of ‘Human needs’ fame, man’s need is insatiable; the more he has, the more his worries to have more. Worries lead to death – and after death, what next? Like Jesus Christ, Apostle Paul, in His teaching said godliness with contentment is great gain; he added that those who covet riches fall into various traps … (1 Tim. 6:8-10). Instead, Jesus Christ gives us an injunction: ‘Seek you first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you’ (Matt. 6:33; Luke 12:31 ).
The paradise lost can be restored to us in Christ if we walk in His statutes. We should be able to say like King David: ‘The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1). In as much as man gives in to material things, corruption will always triumph. It will give birth to inordinate ambition which will, undoubtedly, lead to eternal death.
The Kingdom of God is real: hell is also real. Those who give their lives to the world will perish with the world. Let us wait patiently for Christ our Master who has a place of eternal joy for us. Let the inordinate seeking of material things be secondary, rather let us spend our energies in seeking God and His righteousness.
HYMN: EMHB 677 – WE LOVE THE PLACE, O GOD….
PRAYER: My Lord and my Saviour, give me grace to follow You all the days of my life so that at the end of my sojourn in this sinful world, I will make heaven in Jesus’ Christ’s name.
