SUNDAY 18TH FEBRUARY, 2018
THEME: SEEDS OF PEACE
TEXT: HOSEA 10:9-15
MEMORY VERSE: HOSEA 10:12 “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy, break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, till He comes and rains righteousness upon you.”
Israel deserted God by sowing seeds of idolatry, violence, killing, stealing and murder, which grew and attracted God’s wrath and punishment on them (Hosea 9:10). To seek God, Prophet Hosea (pronounced Osee) gave the three options in verse 12 of the text. Every plant has its uniqueness in size, shape and colour of the seed it produces. Also, the seed is used to identify a particular plant and the species and kingdom it belongs to.
Therefore, as Christians, we are encouraged here to sow seeds of peace wherever we are, in any environment we may find ourselves. Not just “a seed” but “seeds”. This also implies, sowing seeds of peace in our offices, schools, organizations, villages, etc. “For by their fruits we shall know them”. For a man whose life is controlled by the Holy Spirit sows and produces the seeds of peace, patience, kindness, goodness, righteousness, self-control and faithfulness (Gal. 5:22-25). We are to stop being wicked and sowing seeds of discord, trouble, hatred, confusion, etc.
Beloved, are we aware, as Christians who have been called into the marvelous light of God, when we engage in the business of sowing the seeds? Anywhere we find ourselves, there must be peace – no war, conflict and no discrimination. In our country, homes, and schools and in the church there must be peace, perfect peace.
How well have we promoted peace and justice in that organization we find ourselves? Are we sowers of the seed of war or the seeds of peace? Let us come to Jesus Christ now and receive the sowing grace. For any seed a man sows, that he shall reap. (Gal. 6:7) Let us, therefore, sow good seeds.
HYMN: EMHB 501 – PEACE, PERFECT PEACE…
PRAYER: Oh God, make me an agent of peace anywhere I find myself in Jesus’ name. Amen.
