FRIDAY 29TH DECEMBER, 2017 READ – DAY: Luke 23:1-25; Night: Neh 8-9
THEME: PREPARE THE WAY
TEXT: ISAIAH 40: 3 – 5
HYMN: EMHB 546 – Come, Saviour, Jesus, from above!
John the Baptist was the one promised through Isaiah, the Prophet: “A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight the paths for him.'”The promise of a Saviour was made to Adam and Eve centuries ago. Then prophet Micah gave more clues saying: “In Bethlehem Ephrathah, there would the Saviour be born” (Micah 5:2). John the Baptist claimed to be the voice of the one crying in the wilderness (John 1:23). So John stood by the Jordan River saying, “Repent for the Kingdom of heaven is near.”
This is a good way to prepare ourselves, isn’t it? Remember at Christmas, we always celebrate the birthday of the One who is the greatest. Jesus is greater than anyone. So we prepare ourselves with repentance: with change of thinking. The prophet Joel says: “Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity” (Joel 2:13).
As we wait for the second coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and the year 2018, let us prepare our heart for the Lord with repentance, have a change of mind, a change of thinking, a change of heart and a change that will produce the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5: 22-23). Paul, in Colossians 1:10 writes: “And we pray that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God” This is exactly what is expected of every believer.
MEMORY VERSE: Isaiah 40:4a “Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill brought low.”
PRAYER: Prepare my heart, Holy Spirit, and empower me to be ready for the coming of my Lord Jesus Christ.
