TEXT:     ZECH. 1:16-21

HYMN:  EMHB 541 – Pray, without ceasing, pray

Prayer is a means by which believers communicate with God. It is through prayer you can make your needs known to God. No wonder the Bible says in Eph 6:18 that “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching there unto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints”. Through prayer one can obtain mercy from God.

Jeremiah 33:3 says “Call unto me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not”. This simply tells us that when we need God’s mercy, just pray to Him. God is ever ready and present to answer us anytime we call on Him, especially for mercy. For your joy to be full, you need to pray. When Peter was arrested and put in prison, brethren prayed and God intervened and Peter regained his freedom (Acts 12:7-10). Likewise Paul and Silas in the prison did not only regained their freedom, many also gave their lives to Christ because of their prayer. (Acts 16:19-26)

Beloved, you and I obtained mercy and salvation today because somebody somewhere prayed. Some people do not have an organized prayer life; they pray only when it is convenient, yet Jesus says we ought to pray always. How often do you pray? Is your joy full and overflowing? If it is not, begin to pray until your joy is full. 1Thessalonians 5:17 says “Pray without ceasing”.

We must take prayer seriously for us to obtain mercy. You can pray anywhere you find yourself; either in the car or in the office while working. However, wherever you pray, don’t show-off like the hypocrites who want people to see them. Don’t use vain repetitions, too, like heathens or unbelievers. If necessary, add fasting to your prayers for miracles to happen. (Matt. 6:51-18). Also when you pray, have faith, believing that what you are asking for is already answered. Never doubt, too.

MEMORY VERSE: James 1:6&7 “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man thinks that he shall receive anything of the Lord.”

PRAYER: Hear our prayers, merciful Lord, and let our supplications come unto Thee. Amen.
