FRIDAY 6TH APRIL, 2018
THEME: OUTPOURING OF HIS SPIRIT
TEXT: ACTS 2: 1-47
MEMORY VERSE: ACTS 2:4 "Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind
came from heaven and filled the whole house where they where sitting."(NIV)
On the day of Pentecost, that Old Testament prophesy in Joel 2: 28 – 29 was fulfilled. The disciples of
Jesus were gathered together praying. Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, like a rushing mighty
wind. It filled the whole house where they were sitting. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and
began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. The outpouring of the Spirit
marked the beginning and inauguration of the Church.
The outpouring of the Holy Spirit was the empowerment of the Church for vision and mission to the
world. The Spirit dwells in the Church. He appoints officers for the Church. He directs the decisions of
the Church. He directs the mission enterprises of the Church. In the individual believers, the Spirit lives
in us, draws us into fellowship with Christ. He gives us power to witness, teaches us what to say and
convicts the world of sin. The Spirit prays and teaches us what to pray about and how. He enables us to
live the victorious Christian life in holiness and righteousness. He gives us the power to fight and
conquer Satan, sin and the world. He gives us spiritual gifts for the edification of the body of Christ and
the perfecting of the saints.
How do we experience this baptism of the Spirit in our lives and churches today? We must generally
repent of our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and earnestly pray to receive
the Holy Spirit. Living without the Holy Spirit is like a farmer who decides to continue the primitive
method of farming instead of using the modern method and implements.
The promise is for all believers regarless of age, sex, race and social and economic status Act 1:4-5. What
