SATURDAY 8TH JULY, 2017 READ – DAY: Matt 20; Night: Psalm 106-107
THEME: NO UNEQUAL YOKE
TEXT: 2CORINTHIANS 6:11-18
HYMN: EMHB 400 – Take my life and let it be.
Believers in Christ live in a world that has various institutions of varying levels. Issues that call for compromise or a shift in one’s conviction or belief always surface and surround us. In other words, the world is a mixture of righteous and unrighteous people of different religions, light and darkness, Christ with Belial (Satan), believers and unbelievers; idols and God. The clarion call from Apostle Paul that caution should be observed by believers in order to avoid being unequally yoked with unbelievers is imperative.
Some of the causes of being unequally yoked include backsliding, fear or uncertainty of the unknown, desire to belong, longing for peoples acceptance/love, measuring/comparing self with others (2 Cor. 10:12,); traditions, customs, taboos, culture and beliefs; marriages, academics, businesses, politics, sports and career.
Abuse of integrity, lack of divine coverage and self-worth are the dangers of being unequally yoked with unbelievers and wicked people. To overcome being yoked with unbelievers, we have to come out from among them and be separated/consecrated unto God in everything we do, making Jesus Christ the centre of our actions.
MEMORY VERSE: 2Cor. 6:11 “O Corinthians! We have spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open.”
PRAYER: Father, help me to overcome every challenge of life that may cause me to be equally yoked with unbelievers or the world –Amen.
