TUESDAY 2ND MAY, 2017 READ – Day: Mark 7; Night: Jug 7-8
THEME: NEVER FORGET WHAT GOD REMEMBERS
TEXT: PSALM 103: 1 – 22
HYMN: EMHB 53 – God is Love: His mercy brightens
In verse 14, the Psalmist (David) points out that God knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. Dust is something found lying on the ground. Therefore, dust speaks figuratively of our weakness and frailty.
But dust also speaks of the tremendous potential that we have, even as humans, in our weaknesses. God took the common, ordinary dust of the ground and made it into clay, and breathed into it and made man in His image (Genesis 2:7). So from something ordinary, with His breath in it He can do great things.
Never forget what God remembers. You are dust; therefore, in the flesh you cannot please God (Rom. 8:18). For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live (Romans 8:13).
Never forget what God remembers. You are dust, therefore you need the resurrection power of our Lord Jesus Christ and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit to overcome the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21). You have to come to God with the knowledge that He knows your weaknesses! Christian, come to God and admit your depravity and your struggle with temptation! Come to Him, and trust Him for His inexhaustible strength. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it (1 Corinthians 10:13).
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 103: 14 “For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.”
PRAYER: Father, empower the Holy Spirit to remind us of what we so often forget, and empower us, too, to crucify the flesh.
