WEDNESDAY 2ND AUGUST, 2017 READ – DAY: Act 16; Night: 1 Kings 7
THEME: LOVE ONE ANOTHER
TEXT: 1 JOHN 4:7-14
HYMN: EMHB 444- Beloved, Let us love
The above passage speaks clearly on the importance of love and weighs love on the scale of spirituality. Hence, the only binding principle that connects man with God is love. God showed to the human race His love by giving His Son (Jesus) to die for our sins and gave us the hope of eternal kingdom.
Today we live under the new covenant. There are only two commandments in the New Testament. Jesus said in John 13:34 “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another”. Also in 1 John 3:23 “and this is His commandment, that we should believe on the Name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment”.
John argues that one’s nature shows one’s spiritual lineage. Those who are like God are His children, and God’s supreme characteristic is His love, revealed in the Cross of Christ. Even true Christian love has to be perfected, by showing kindness to your fellow human being. It is expected of all to have Christ-like character through our love to our fellow human being.
Many people give to those that give to them and express their love to those that love them but fail to love others, all because they don’t have things in common. The Bible takes the subject of love so seriously that love is equated to the whole commandment of God as love is the fulfilment of the law. We are to believe on Jesus Christ and love one another… it is so simple and clear for some, but not to all. Most people believe the devil’s lie, which is the world’s truth! The world says you are to love those that love you but the Word of God tells us to love our brethren in Christ Jesus and our enemy! Galatians 5:6 tells us to add love to our faith. Show love, walk in love and live in love so as to fulfil the commandment of God. May the love of God continue to bind us together in Jesus’ name. Amen
MEMORY VERSE: 1John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love”.
PRAYER: Father Eternal, as You loved the world and gave Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins, grant me the same divine love to love You more than the world in Jesus Name. Amen.
