THURSDAY 6TH JULY, 2017 READ – DAY: Matt 18; Night: Psalm 101-103
THEME: LIGHT AFFLICTION
TEXT: 2CORINTHIANS 4: 6 -18
HYMN: EMHB 527 – Sometimes a light surprises.
Affliction is something that causes pain or suffering. It can be sickness, demonic possession, lack of progress. Some of the causes of affliction are sin, attack and manipulation from satanic agents, spiritual weakness, bad habits and God to test our faith in Him.
It is a common phenomenon in the Old and New Testaments that both sinners and the righteous suffer. The Israelites of old, though chosen by God, experienced affliction at one time or the other (2 Kings 14:26). David, a man after God’s heart, called upon the Lord to consider him in his affliction and trouble (Ps. 25:18). Jeremiah, in his Lamentation, said that God does not enjoy bringing affliction (Lamentation 3:33.) Paul, the great Apostle of faith, told his audience in Acts 20:23 that afflictions await him in every city and Job in 34:28 assures us that God hears the outcry of the afflicted.
However, the affliction of the righteous is light because it is for a moment and, above all, the glory it is working for them is not only eternal but outweighs the affliction itself. Are you currently going through any affliction? Don’t give up; rather, have faith in God. Be spiritually sensitive or alert. God’s Word dwells richly in you, so give no opening for demonic attacks. Be prayerful at all times.
MEMORY VERSE: 2Cor. 4:17 “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
PRAYER: Lord, give me divine inspiration to understand that the affliction I pass through is a light one from Thee, so that, I will not only overcome, but will always come out brighter for in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
