FRIDAY 3RD NOVEMBER, 2017 READ – DAY: John 17; Night: Jer 18-20
THEME: LEARN FROM THE ANT
TEXT: PROVERBS 6: 6-8
HYMN: EMHB196 – Work, for the night is coming.
An ant is a small creature which digs a hole in the ground and lives there. It is commonly seen in homes especially around the kitchen and dining area looking for crumbs that fall from the table and carries it to its hole to keep. Ant is known for preparing for the rainy day. It is feeble but full of intelligence. It is not lazy. It takes hold of any opportunity that comes its way to gather food so that in the rainy season it remains in-door because a little water can sweep it away and lose its life.
In the study of this feeble creature, the writer of Proverbs says, it has no leader who will direct and give it instructions on what it needs to do, yet it carries out its duties as expected. God has a purpose for creating the ant and for it to co-habit with human beings to have a lesson to learn from it. In the age where some indulge themselves in watching movies, sports, and engaging in other frivolities and end up in penury, they need to learn from the ant which does not allow any opportunity that comes its way to slip by.
Learning from the ant is to make good use of time that comes our way. When one is young and agile let him/her work and cultivate the habit of saving so that at old age he/she will not be a beggar. Being diligent and managing time properly always add value to one’s life and God’s kingdom.
MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 6:6 “Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise”
PRAYER: Father, create in me the urge to be more diligent so that my life will be a blessing to others in Jesus’ name. Amen.
