SUNDAY 23RD APRIL, 2017 READ – Day: Titus 1-3; Night: Josh 10-11
THEME: IS YOUR ACHIEVEMENT YOUR PRIDE?
TEXT: 2 KINGS 14:8-14
HYMN: EMHB 400 – Take my life and let it be
There is always the tendency to feel on top of the world when we get a long awaited result and we are quick to forget there is nothing we have that we have not been given from above . This is the case of Amaziah king of Israel here, who was lifted up in his heart because of his conquest over Edom. He decided to engage Jehoash, king of Israel in a fight and was eventually defeated. Shame became his portion, he was imprisoned by Jehoash and all the treasures in the house of the Lord were carted away.
There is great virtue in a person with a humble heart. We must realise that whatever we are or have accomplished in life today is nothing but by God’s grace and mercy. Pride comes with shame and contempt; and robs us of our values in life.
Maintain a humble spirit and you’ll see God taking you to greater heights.
MEMORY VERSE: Prov. 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
PRAYER: All I have and what I am is yours and by you oh Lord, let this continually ring in my heart as I follow you.
