TUESDAY 15TH AUGUST 2017 READ – DAY: 1 Thess 1-2; Night: Prv 24-25
TOPIC: HOW EXPOSED ARE YOU TO THE LIGHT?
TEXT: 1 JOHN 1:5 – 7
HYMN: EMHB 531; Light of the world, Thy beams I bless.
Light is the brightness that comes from the sun, fire, electrical devices, etc, making us to see clearly. From the text, it is clear that God is light. He shines in the darkness; the darkness cannot comprehend Him. If you work in the light it means you have fellowship with God because God is the light. On the other hand, if a man rejects light, definitely he will embrace darkness. Satan is the ruler of darkness.
This is the reason Apostle John said if we say that we have fellowship with God but still walk in darkness the truth is not in us. Your exposure to light will determine your relationship with God and other believers. Jesus Christ is the light of God because the Bible says in John 1:4 that in Him (Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of men. If you do not have Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour you have no light and where there is no light, darkness will take over. In 1 John 2:15 – 17, God the light enjoins us not to love the world neither the things of the world (darkness). When you have fellowship with God and His children, you are exposed to the light and God will make your way prosper according to His promises in Psalm 1, which says “Blessed is the man (woman and children) who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners…..”
Beloved, how exposed are you to the light? If your relationship with the Light is dark or you do not even know this Light; you are bound to fail. Jesus is the Light and all His followers must show the light. Your actions will show whether you are in darkness or the Light. By their fruit we shall know them, the Bible says. May we be Light to others in Jesus name. You can avoid this fall and internal damnation by accepting Jesus Christ.
MEMORY VERSE: 1 John 1:5 “This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.”
PRAYER: Father Eternal, don’t allow my light to be overshadowed by the darkness of this world in Jesus’ name. Amen.
