DAILY REFLECTION: Holiness | Wednesday 24th May

WEDNESDAY 24TH MAY, 2017 READ – Day: James 3-4 Night: 1 Sam 15-16
THEME: HOLINESS
TEXT: ISAIAH 51:1-3, 7-11
HYMN: EMHB 27 –Angels holy, high and lowly
Today marks John Wesley’s conversion day over 300 years ago. Therefore, today’s reflection is designed for the comfort and the encouragement of those that fear God and keep His commandments, even when they walk in darkness and have no light. Whenever the Church of God is in distress; her friends and well wishers may comfort one another with these words -that God who raised His Church at first out of nothing, will take care that it shall not perish (Isaiah 51:1-3).
John Wesley, like Isaiah, prayed that God would, in His providence, appear and act for the deliverance of His people and mortification of His and their enemies. “Awake, awake! Put on strength, O arm of the Lord!” (Isaiah 51:9). The arm of the Lord is Christ, or it is put for God himself, as Psalm 44:23 declared. “Arouse Thyself! Why sleepest Thou, O Lord ? Awake!”

He that keeps Israel neither sleeps nor slumbers; but, when we pray that He should awake, we mean that He should make evident His watches over His people and manifest His goodness over them. The arm of the Lord is said to ‘awake’ when the power of God exerts itself with extraordinary vigour on behalf His people. When the arm is not acting, it is said to be asleep; but when it stretches forth in action, it means, it is awake. God does not need to be reminded by us, but requires our earnest obedience and this will enhance His manifestation.
Beloved, we need to embrace Holiness as our fundamental Christian life style for God to manifest through His arm on us and on our behalf. It is a basic requirement to see God and to walk with Him. His Word requires us to follow peace and Holiness for us to see God. (Heb 12:14). God is ever willing to cause His arm do gloriously amidst us, but we need to open the door to His will over us.
Today, beloved put off that perversion; separate yourself to Him and be Holy. When you seek Him you will be found of Him.

MEMORY VERSE: Isaiah 59:1-2 “Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:…”
PRAYER: O Lord, deliver us from all instabilities surrounding us, that we may give ourselves to Holiness for your manifestation on our lives in Jesus’ name. Amen.
