MONDAY 25TH DECEMBER, 2017                                                            READ – DAY: Luke 20; Night: Esther 6-10

TEXT:     LUKE 15: 17 – 22

HYMN:  EMHB 326 – Sinners, obey the gospel word

The son became lost because he did not hold unto his father. This boy’s idea of freedom is that of so many young people today — the opportunity to do what you want to do. “If I could be my own boss, and answerable to no one! What a great life that would be!” The boy was determined to have his way. So the father gave him his share of the property. The boy then wasted his possessions with prodigal living in a far country. Due to famine and lack, he ended up feeding pigs. There, in the pigsty with an empty purse and an empty belly, he began to take stock of his empty life.

He realized that all the things that he once had, and had squandered, came from his father. Also, everything he now needed could be found only in the father’s house. That was where true freedom lay. The only solution was for him to go back to his father.

Do not be like the lost son who stubbornly left his father. God is our heavenly Father. Therefore, it is in holding unto Him and His Word that we have access to true freedom, peace, joy, righteousness and eternal life. If you have lost your relationship with the Heavenly Father, you are at risk of being lost forever. Therefore, repent today and confess your sins and you will be restored. For there is joy in heaven over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:10). Have a joy-filled Christmas.

MEMORY VERSE: Hebrew 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I ask you to break the spirit of rebellion within me, and help me to choose Your plan and Your purpose. Amen.
