Daily Reflection: HINDRANCE TO PROMISES/SUNDAY 22ND OCTOBER, 2017

SUNDAY 22ND OCTOBER, 2017                                READ – DAY: John 7:25-52; Night: Nahu 1-3

THEME: HINDRANCE TO PROMISES

TEXT:    GENESIS 39:7-12

HYMN:  EMHB 300 – Breathe on me Breath of God

A common Gospel lyric says “That is why You are called Jehovah/2ce.  What You say You will do, that is what You will do; that is why You are called Jehovah.”  The Almighty God is always faithful to His promises.  In fact, He is a God that cannot lie (Num. 23:19) and whatever He says or declares will surely come to pass.  This is because any Word that comes from His Mouth will never return to Him void.  (Isaiah 55:11).  Every good promise of God concerning your life and family shall be fulfilled in Jesus’ name.

However, the major hindrance to the fulfilment of God’s promises is SIN (Rom. 6:1-2). Isaiah 59:1-2 says “Surely, the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too full to hear.  But your inequities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear….”  God revealed His good promises and plans to Joseph in a dream.  Because of his dream he was sold as a slave to Egypt by his brothers.  As a slave in the house of Potiphar, God favoured him and his master put all that he had into Joseph’s care.  However, his master’s wife often struggled to seduce him to lie with her.  But Joseph refused and said “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God” (Gen. 39:9). Joseph’s refusal landed him in prison but when God’s appointed time came, he became the Prime Minister of Egypt, second in command to Pharaoh’s. Beloved, if Joseph had yielded to the request of Potiphar’s wife and sinned against God, he would have hindered the fulfilment of God’s promise for his life.  What people call ‘little sins’ today are hindering the fulfilment of God’s promises in many lives.

Are you still lying, stealing, embezzling church fund, fornicating and committing adultery, cheating during examination, fighting and quarrelling, etc?  All these can hinder the fulfilment of God’s promises in your life.  The only way out is for you to repent from all your sins and accept Christ as your Saviour.  Do you want God to hear and answer whenever you pray?  Do you want Him to fulfil His wonderful promises in your life and family?  If ‘Yes’, then run away from sin as Joseph did and it shall be well with you in Jesus’ name.

MEMORY VERSE: Romans 6:2 “Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”

PRAYER: Almighty Father, help me to do away with any sin that can hinder the fulfilment of Your wonderful promises in my life in Jesus’ name.
