TUESDAY 7TH NOVEMBER, 2017 READ – DAY: John 21; Night: Jer 27-29
THEME: GOOD OFFERING
TEXT: GENESIS 8: 20 – 22
HYMN: EMHB 219 – For mercies countless as the sand
Offering is what you determine in your heart to give from the abundance you received from God for the advancement of God’s kingdom. There is no limit as to what you can give as offering. Offering is given to please only God and not to attract people’s attention to oneself.
God sent Noah as an evangelist to his generation. He preached message of repentance and warned people to return to God to avoid the impending doom of a great deluge. The people mocked him for his efforts and turned deaf ears to his warning. When the great deluge came, God asked Noah, his family and animals to enter into the Ark and saved them from the flood. After the flood had subsided, Noah and all the living creatures came out of the Ark. He built an altar and sacrificed burnt offerings on it. The Lord smelled the aroma and said in His heart that He would never again curse the ground because of man. Noah gave the good offering as an appreciation of God’s saving grace on his family and the animals. The offering of Noah was a good offering to God. It changed the destiny of humanity and God promised He will not anymore curse the ground because of man (8: 21). The ground (land) is the source of survival of humanity. God promised that the ground would yield blessing on human endeavours. The import of the good offering Noah offered is that whatever man does on the ground will prosper.
What kind of offering have you offered God for all His benefits that you received? It is not enough to sing, dance and give testimony in appreciation of the goodness of God over you, you also have to offer a good offering in terms of cash and kind to His house for the advancement of His kingdom. Good offering opens a new window of blessing from God. It expands coast of knowledge, wisdom and insight of the Holy Spirit in man’s undertakings. Always appreciate God by giving good offering.
MEMORY VERSE: Gen. 4: 4 “And Abel brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord has regard for Abel and his offering.”
PRAYER: Lord, give me grace to be appreciative of Your favour, kindness and mercy which I receive all the time in Jesus’ name. Amen.
