DAILY REFLECTION : God’s basic Dos and Don’t s | 11th April

TUESDAY 11TH APRIL, 2017 READ – Day: Col 2; Night: Deut 14-16
THEME: GODS BASIC DOs AND DON’TS
TEXT: EXODUS 20: 1- 7
HYMN: EMHB 327 – Sinners, turn; why will ye die?

The greatest transgression anybody can commit against God is to reject Him as his/her maker, and to start giving His glory, honour, worship, etc, to other gods or images made with hands. In our text today, God hates polytheism (worship of many gods) with a passion. In verse 5, God makes it clear that He is a jealous God, punishing the children for the sins of their forefathers to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Him.
So many things today, have taken the place of God in our lives. To some, their idol is their job, their spouse, their father or mother; the computer, movies, their car, particular lifestyle, food or drinks. These idols keep them away from worshipping God and praying. They pre-occupy their mind with these things so that they have little or no time to pray or study the Bible. They grumble when the Word of God is being preached. Are you one of them? Change.
Some have really identified with other religions like African Traditional Religion (ATR), and other occultic practices which have removed their faith from the worship of our Creator – God- to those evil practices.
The Prophet Isaiah asked two questions in Isaiah 40:18: “To whom, then, will you compare God? What image will you compare Him to? God is awesome. He alone deserves our praise, honour, worship and prayers. There is no other god beside Him. Give Him the glory, honour and adoration He richly deserves.
Idol worship has ruined many nations, tribes, communities, homes and individuals. An idolater is an enemy of God and God’s wrath is against him or her. Even if he or she is a clergy man, title holder in the church or a highly-revered officer of the church, such an idolater is a stubborn enemy of God and will not inherit the Kingdom of God. Hell fire awaits him or her. God knows and sees all you do in secret. Be warned!

MEMORY VERSE: Exodus 20: 23: “Do not make any gods to be alongside Me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold”.

PRAYER: Lord, I surrender my life and my all to You. Don’t allow me to provoke You to anger any longer in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
