Daily Reflection: GOD DISCOMFITS THE ENEMY/THURSDAY 26TH OCTOBER, 2017

THURSDAY 26TH OCTOBER, 2017                                           READ – DAY: John 10; Night: 2 Chro 36

THEME: GOD DISCOMFITS THE ENEMY

TEXT:     EXODUS 12:29-39

HYMN: EMHB 526 – O Jesus, I have promised.

The Israelites were under the bondage of the Egyptians for 230 years. When the set time came for the people of God to be delivered from slavery, Pharaoh, the King of Egypt, would not allow them to go and God struck hard at the enemy. Every first born in the land of Egypt was killed in a single night. From the crowned prince to the slave offspring, even the cattle, none escaped His judgment. This was a complete defeat and a great embarrassment to the Egyptians. Immediately, King Pharaoh ordered the release of the Israelites. This same God shall deal with all your enemies and give you uncommon victory in Jesus’ name.

The Bible also records in verse 36 that the Lord favoured the Israelites and made them to go with abundant wealth of the Egyptians, “And they spoiled the Egyptians.” They left Egypt like a victorious army, loaded with the enemy’s spoils.  How can ordinary slaves order their masters to surrender their wealth and they obeyed promptly without hesitation? This is nothing but the mighty hand of the Omnipotent God. “Or else, how can one enter into a strong man’s house and spoil his goods except he first binds the strong man? And then he will spoil his house.”(Matt. 12:29).  Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift, the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, by His death and resurrection, brought life to men and God gave man the spirit of sonship.

Now, because of the love of Jesus and His sacrifice on the Cross you have been given a name, that in the Name of Jesus every ‘King Pharaoh’ of your life holding you captive will not only let you go but will also be spoiled. According to the promise of God in Isaiah 45:3 “and I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the Lord, which call you by name, AM the God of Israel.” Surely God remains Omnipotent.

MEMORY VERSE: Exodus 12:29 “And it came to pass at midnight that the Lord struck all the first born in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on his throne, to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock.”

PRAYER: Jehovah, deliver me from all my enemies and grant me all-round victory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
