THEME: FAITHFUL SEEKER
TEXT: LUKE 19:1-10
MEMORY VERSE: LUKE 19:10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Although Jesus came to seek the lost, the lost are also expected to seek Him or else how can “two walk together unless they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3). James said, “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you…” (James 4:8). In the gospel of John, Jesus was recorded to have gone to His own people, but His people did not receive Him (John. 1:11-12). For the fact that His people rejected Him, they became unacceptable to God. Fellowship with God is a two-way communication – the caller and the receiver or the receiver and the caller.
The story of Zacchaeus, we read, showed us a very rich tax officer who had already heard about Jesus and His miraculous encounters with people and how He accepted those that the priests and Pharisees had already rejected. This time Zacchaeus heard about Jesus passing by and because he had longed to see Him, climbed up a tree to get a glimpse of Him.
A man of his caliber would never have subscribed to such a ridiculous exercise of climbing the tree to see a preacher. Imagine the Police DPO doing such a thing. The deep yearning of Zacchaeus to see Jesus and become acceptable did not make him see his exalted position but Jesus’ alone. All the people around did not matter to him. All he wanted was the salvation of his own soul.
Are you really seeking Jesus? Will your pride debar you from really seeing Him? Will you be ready to accept Jesus’ invitation, be ready to accept His terms and allow your life to be transformed? Only those who truly and faithfully seek Jesus will see Him.
HYMN: EMHB 322 – SINNERS JESUS WILL RECEIVE
PRAYER: God, remove every pride that may hinder my salvation in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
