Daily Reflection: EVIDENCE OF BEING A CHILD/THURSDAY 16TH NOVEMBER, 2017

THURSDAY 16TH NOVEMBER, 2017                                                       READ – DAY: James 1; Night: Jer 51

THEME: EVIDENCE OF BEING A CHILD

TEXT:     1 JOHN 3: 6 – 10

HYMN: EMHB 273 – Come down, O love Divine,

Scientists have invented deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) to determine the evidence of who fathered a child. If man can do this, how much more God who called people out of darkness to His glorious light in Jesus Christ. It is common to hear “I am a child of God”, but when you critically examine the way and life of such people, placing it in the light of the Word of God, one will conclude that there is no truth in that claim. The Bible does not put us in doubt as to what it takes to be a child of God. A child of God does not continue sinning after confessing Jesus Christ as Saviour. You may ask. ‘What is sin?’ Every unrighteousness is sin (1 Jn. 5: 17). What does not come from faith is sin (Rom. 14: 23) Sin is lawlessness (1 John 3: 4b). To be in sin is an evidence of being a child of the devil.

A man has three children. When the children were of age one day, a younger brother of his who came on a visit asked his elder brother. What evidence do you have that these children are yours? “The man analyzed the behaviour of the children one after the other and concluded that a particular one who usually behaved strangely, was probably not his child. Though he fathered him, the child always behaved contrary to the norms of the family. God created us in His image but not all are His children because some behave contrary to His will.

Anyone who does not love his brother or sister cannot call himself/herself a child of God. Evidence of being a child of God is also in allowing Jesus to destroy the work of the devil that dwells in you. Remaining in the Lord is another evidence of being a child of God. Are you truly a child of God?

MEMORY VERSE: Rom. 8:14 “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, Thou Son of God, come into my life and make my heart Your dwelling place and subdue every power of sin in my life now and evermore. Amen.
