THEME: DON’T MISS GOD’S ANSWER
TEXT: GENESIS 18:1-15
MEMORY VERSE: GENESIS 18:14 “Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed
time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son”.
Abraham and his wife, Sarah, had been without any child since they were married. They were now very old waiting for the promise of God. For God had said earlier, “…I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude” (Gen. 16:10). While waiting for the fulfillment of the promise of God, a test came to Abraham. God came down to them in the company of two angels in the form of men. God was testing the faithfulness of Abraham in showing mercy that He might perform what He had promised to him. The Bible says, “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy” (Mt. 5:7).
Abraham could easily have allowed the strangers go without his hospitality, but because he showed mercy, he got mercy from God, too. Are you expecting something from God but you don’t care what happens to other people around you? Even in your own ugly situation, you can still lend a hand of help to those you can still be of help to. Remember the widow of Zarephath. She had to take care of Prophet Elijah first before God visited her with a miracle (I Kg. 17:1-16).
Are you in a situation contrary to you and because of that you feel you are not a candidate to offer help? Know that the help you offer at such times might be opening ‘a closed door’ for you or else, you might be failing God’s test and missing God’s answer. Take a look around you, even in your self-pity that you don’t have much, many people around you are still wishing they could have just a bit of what you have. While waiting for an answer from God, offer help to people around you!
HYMN: EMHB 723 – O GOD OF OUR FATHERS, HEAR
PRAYER: Help me, God, never to be afraid to take every step necessary to possess Your promise in Jesus’ name. Amen.
