WEDNESDAY 12TH APRIL, 2017 READ – Day: Col 3-4; Night: Deut 17-19
THEME: DEFEAT OF SATAN
TEXT: EZEKIEL 28: 1 -19, REVELATION 12: 7-12
HYMN: EMHB 225 – Christ, above all glory seated!
The greatest enemy of God and humanity is Satan. He has opposed every plan and purpose of God in creation. Satan has been described in the Bible as: The Accuser of the brethren (Rev. 12:10), Opposer of the brethren (Ps.109:6), the Devil (Matt. 4:1), the Tempter (1 Thess. 3:5), the Evil one (Matt. 6:13), A murderer from the beginning (John. 8: 44), the god of this evil world (2Cor. 4: 7), the prince of this world (John. 12: 31) etc.
Satan did great havoc to humanity and the creations of God. He deceived Adam and Eve, afflicted Job, tempted Jesus. He afflicted people with sickness, barrenness and other diseases. He parades and masquerades himself as an angel of light (2Cor. 11: 14).
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to defeat and to destroy the works of Satan (1 John. 3:8) By His crucifixion on the Cross, Jesus triumphed over Satan and the powers of darkness. Jesus overcame him through His life, ministry, death on the Cross and resurrection. Rev. 12:11 states that we overcome him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and by the words of our testimony.
If you are a believer in Christ, born again and living your life according to the Word of God, then you are sure of victory over Satan and his cohorts (see 1 John. 4:4). Spend time to meditate on the Word of God and to fast and pray so that you will be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Josh. 1:8, Matt. 26: 40 -41; Eph. 6: 10-12).
MEMORY VERSE: Rev. 12:9: “The great dragon was hurled down – that ancient serpent called the devil or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.”(NIV).
PRAYER: Lord, grant me the grace to resist and overcome Satan and all his evil works in Jesus’ name. Amen.
