FRIDAY 2ND FEBRUARY, 2018
THEME: AT HOME WITH GOD
TEXT: JOHN 14:1-24
MEMORY VERSE: JOHN 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, who the Father will send in My name,
He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you”.
Jesus left His disciples but not without a sure hope and assurance of His coming back for them. He promised He was going to prepare a place for them in heaven and later come back for them that they might be together – “at home with God”. Jesus made it clear that He and His Father are One, meaning that wherever God, the Father, is there you will find Jesus. Jesus also desires that wherever He is, His disciples would be also.
Whoever therefore desires to be with God must have a good relationship with Jesus. The good relationship, as prescribed by Jesus in verses 15 and 23 of the text, is knowing His commandments and keeping them. Keeping the commandments of God requires faith in God. Jesus promised that those who keep His commandments will be given the Spirit of Truth (i.e. the Comforter) whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees Him nor knows Him (verses 15-17). Anyone who wants to be with God in the unseen home above must relate with Jesus in faith while here on earth, seeing the invisible heavenly home as a sure abode promised and fulfilled (Hebrews 11:13). Remember Jesus started the chapter we read with a plea to His disciples to relax and not be troubled. No one can inherit the heavenly home with God unless he walks in obedience to God’s Word and has unwavering faith.
Do you desire to be at home with God at the end of your life? Keep His Word, trust absolutely in His promise of a secure home and consider it done.
