WEDNESDAY 7TH JUNE, 2017 READ – DAY: Rev 3-4; Night: Psalm 35-36
THEME: ACCORDING TO GRACE
TEXT: ROMANS 12:4-8
HYMN: EMHB 578 – A charge to keep I have.
God has endowed every Christian with various spiritual gifts according to the grace given to each one. Some of us have been given gifts to prophesy, some the spirit to serve, to teach, to encourage, to generously contribute to others’ needs; to lead and to show mercy. The questions we should ask ourselves are: Are we using these gifts to the glory of God? Are we using them for the purpose for which God gave them to us?
We shall give account of how we use any gift God has given to us. Let us also note that God’s gifts were given to us according to the grace given to us. This is to say that when you have a gift, develop it and use it for God’s work. Do not envy another person because of his/her gift. It could be that he/she has a higher grace than yours; it could also be that God has destined you for a special gift you have not yet fully explored. We are enjoined to use our gifts to God’s glory. It has to be noted also that these gifts are for the edification of the church of God.
So if you have the gift to prophecy, do it to God’s glory, not to show off. If you have the gift of teaching, do it to God’s glory and not to boast. This applies to other gifts. If there has been any way you have been misusing the gift of God, today is another opportunity to reconcile with Him and start using the gift to His glory because you will give an account of it. Just think of what happened in Matthew 25:14-30 (The parable of the talents).
MEMORY VERSE: Romans 12:6 “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith”.(NIV)
PRAYER: Oh Lord! Help me to use the gift You have given to me to the glory of Your Name; Help me not to envy anyone but to put mine into use for the growth of Your church in Jesus’ name. Amen.
