Daily Reflection: A Godly Touch – Friday 30th March 2018

DAILY REFLECTION

FRIDAY 30TH MARCH, 2018 (GOOD FRIDAY)

THEME: A GODLY TOUCH
TEXT: MATTHEW 8:1-4
MEMORY VERSE: MATTHEW 8:3 “Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing”, He said, “Be clean.”

Jesus Christ had just concluded a marathon sermon to both the crowd and His disciples. Many from the crowd still wanted to hear more. They were thirsty for the living water of life which only Jesus Christ could give (and is still giving). He still gives a divine touch that heals all diseases and cleanses the souls of men.

There are steps to take before cleansing can be obtained:
(i) Acknowledgement: The leper knew he was unfit. He was aware that nobody would associate with him. But he did not allow his leprosy to weigh him down from finding a solution to his stigma. Leprosy is like sin that keeps man away from his Maker. It must be so recognized.
(ii) Reflective Listening: Undoubtedly, this man must have heard about Jesus Christ or heard Him teaching the crowd at a distance. He pondered on what he heard.
(iii) Take a step of faith: The leper acted immediately. He went to Christ, despite his stigma.
(iv) He recognized Christ: Jesus says “I am the good Shepherd; I know My sheep and My sheep know Me…. I have other sheep that are not of this pen, I must bring them also…” (John 10:14ff).
(v) His request was simple: Prayer is an expression of request. The leper asked for cleansing of his stigma. A sinner needs to throw himself into the hands of Christ.
(vi) He got immediate answer: ‘Jesus touched the leper and said “Be clean”. The man’s reproach was removed instantly. Come to Jesus Christ in faith; He will be merciful unto you.

Oh, that we would receive the Godly touch that cleanses from sin! Today is Good Friday. What makes it a good Friday is that Jesus offers us cleansing by His shed blood. How can we still be unclean? Let us join the leper to say to Him, ‘…thou can make me clean’ Matt 8:2

HYMN: MHB 351 – I HEAR THY WELCOME VOICE, THAT CALLS ME, LORD, TO THEE

PRAYER: Father, touch my unbelief and make me whole in Jesus’ name.
