Daily Reflection: A GODLY MAN’S DUTY/SUNDAY 1ST OCTOBER, 2017

SUNDAY 1ST OCTOBER, 2017                                     READ – DAY: Phil 2; Night: Isaiah 36-37

TEXT:     TITUS 3:1-10

HYMN: EMHB 444 – Beloved, let us love

The Godly man is always and in all ways different in thoughts and actions from ordinary people. This is so because the godly are always focused and they know what to do and what not to do in a given situation. Therefore, they are not carried away by  events around them.

The first admonition in Titus 3 is that the godly should always be under the authority of the rulers and government that is in place. It goes on to say that obeying them and doing good will allow God to speed up our prayers to fruition. Precisely, the godly man or woman is warned not to speak evil of anyone; rather, he/she should live in peace with others, and also speak out in corrective measures where necessary instead of being involved in slandering and aimless complaints. These are the things the foolish do because they have no hope, feeling that their fortune is in the hands of men.

Today, Nigeria is celebrating her 57th independence anniversary. Nevertheless, we know that the state of the nation is worrisome but we must have faith that tomorrow will be good. We must, therefore, pray for the nation. God is looking for men like Isaiah and Jeremiah to stand in the gap both in prayer, words and action for Nigeria as those great prophets did for Israel when she was in a difficult situation because of their unbelief and sin.

It is worrisome when highly-placed people refuse to pray for the nation or when they are always negative in their words for the nation. When a nation prospers, the people there are bound to proper as well. Always be constructive in your thinking. Negative thinking is of the devil.

MEMORY VERSE: Titus 3:2 “….Speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men (and women).

PRAYER: Omnipotent God, give me a good heart, soul, mind and strength to faithfully serve the King of kings and the Lord of lords in Jesus’ name. Amen.
