Text: Matthew 8:5 -13
HYMN: EMHB 238 – My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary
Memory Verse: Matthew 8:13 “Then Jesus said to the centurion, ‘Go! It will be done just as you believed it would.’ And his servant was healed that very hour (NIV).”
The story we have in our text is really interesting. Entering the city of Capernaum, a Roman officer met Jesus to ask for the healing of a servant. Christ offered to go with the Roman, who politely objected: “I do not deserve to have You come under my roof” (V 8). Instead the Roman asked Jesus merely to speak the Word. Jesus spoke; the servant was healed. Jesus is able.
It is a great wonder that those who exercised great faith in Christ Jesus for healing and deliverance or some unique miracles were not Jews. A number of times, the Lord would lament over the scarcity of such faith in Israel. This is to show that Jesus Christ is not exclusive to the Jews alone or any other tribe. Yesterday, we saw how a leper was cleansed and how a daughter of a Greek woman was healed. Today, it is the servant of a Roman military officer.
I even heard somebody say that a highly-placed Nigeria Muslim expressed the feeling that Christians and Christendom do not have exclusive right to Jesus Christ. The gospel truth is ‘For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perished but have everlasting life’ (John 3:16). And also, ‘that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from dead, you will be saved’ (Romans 10:9).
So whoever you may be – white, black, yellow, brown, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, idol worshipper, sick person, demon possessed or demon afflicted; and whatever may be your shape or figure or appearance; if you could just believe the Lord Jesus, you are bound to receive unspeakable miracles. Try Jesus now! He is always around to give helping hand.
Prayer: Lord, look not upon my frame, I believe You are the Son of the Most High God and nothing is impossible for you to do. Therefore, speak the Word and I shall be made whole. Amen.
